Psalm 46

The Lord woke me earlier than I wanted, and I heard “Psalm 46”.

Upon reading this, my Spirit was stirred.  Verses 1-3 reaffirm that Almighty God is our refuge and strength and is an ever-present help in trouble, and this seems to be pointing to the times we are now living.  Verses 2-3 says that we will not be fearful when we see the mountains fall into the sea and the waters roar and the mountains quake.  The Lord is with us, and this reminds me of Psalm 23:4 which reads “Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.”  In the coming days, as the Birth Pains before the Tribulation intensify, these words will bring much peace to our souls.

Verses 4-7 speak of the City of God and the River of Life that flows from the Throne of God.  Since God dwells there, she will not fall and He will always help her at the break of day.  On the earth there will be tribulation (corporate: Matthew 24:6-13, and personal: John 16:33) and as we move closer to that Day, the day when everything will change on the earth; though we see many things on the earth that will bring much distress to those who are in darkness, to those who do not know God, the Lord is with us who are covered by the Blood of Jesus and He will be our fortress.  We will have nothing to fear!

Verses 8-11 seem to point to the time when God is victorious over the enemy, after He has judged the wicked on the earth.  The judgments come when we see Jerusalem surrounded (Luke 21:20).  On God’s clock, Israel is the “minute” hand, while Jerusalem is the “seconds” hand.  All things pivot on Jerusalem, which is God’s city, and recent news concerning her point to the coming tribulations that Scripture make clear are to come.  But for us who are saved by the Blood of Jesus Christ, peace will come!  Verse 10 say Be still, and know that I am God:  I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth. 11 The Lord of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our refuge. Selah.

No matter what we will see.  No matter what we must endure for the Glory of God, He will be with us every step of the way.  I can think of nothing more comforting that dwelling the hand of the Creator of the Universe.

May you be comforted by these words…
